Join us for an informative day out as we journey back in time to discover the hidden D-Day history of south Dorset. Our tour focuses on the experiences of US servicemen stationed in Dorset, providing valuable insights into 'Operation Bolero' and the preparations of US military forces for war.
The journey begins in the tranquil countryside of Dorset, where we will follow significant military routes from training sites to marshalling areas and ports of embarkation. Along the way, we will pause at various points of historical interest, engaging our specialised knowledge to showcase the key aspects of Dorset's D-Day history.
Our exploration will take us through the picturesque rural lanes of Dorset, allowing you to appreciate the breathtaking views of our ancient landscape. The tour includes refreshment stops at quaint village pubs, enabling us to continue our journey through the largely unspoilt countryside that inspired the works of Thomas Hardy, before returning to our starting point.
Our tours cater to individuals, couples, and small family groups, ensuring there is something suitable for everyone. You will be accompanied by knowledgeable guides who are keen to share their stories, enriching your experience and bringing the history to life.
Our tours last around 6 hours, typically starting at 10 am and concluding at 4 pm.
They can be customised to accommodate specific needs or interests as necessary.

By combing our historical expertise, our specialist knowledge of the local area and years of experience we are pleased to be able to offer our guided tours to owners of WWII military vehicles who would like to to enjoy the hidden WWII history of Dorset from the comfort of their own vehicles.
Following the D-Day embarkation routes our guides can lead groups of up to six vehicles through the lanes and by-ways of the Dorset landscape, stopping at important sites of historical interest and perhaps the occasional pub or ice-cream van for refreshments.
We can assist you with information about accomodation in the local area. including campsites, in some cases on or near to the former D-Day marshalling camps.
